Human Development-
Participants will investigate human developmental theories of Piaget, Kohlberg, Gesell, Montessori, Skinner, Bandura, Freud, Erikson, and a host of other theorists who have made significant contributions to the study of human development and education and apply this information to improve instructional strategies, determine appropriate curriculum, identify potential developmental delays and develop an optimal learning environment for all students. Classroom Management-
Participants will be introduced to the concepts and skills that pre-service teachers will need to be successful in the classroom. The course will provide useful and practical information for teachers as well as an overview of current educational issues and research. Click here to view the syllabus.
Diversity-
Participants will develop an understanding of the diversity present in 21st century classrooms and plan for implementation of teaching strategies to successfully meet the needs of all learners. Click here to view the syllabus.
Literacy Development-
Participants will investigate, interpret and evaluate key topics essential to the literacy development of children. Language development will be explored in terms of reading, writing and speaking. Click here to view the syllabus.
Reading/Language Arts Strategies-
Participants will discuss and evaluate effective strategies for teaching reading including content area reading, diagnosis and remediation of reading difficulties, corrective reading instruction, trends and research in reading education, teaching language arts and integrating technology. Action Research-
Participants will identify an area of focus, develop and design plan of action, collect data, assign meaning to the data (interpret data), accurately report findings and implement findings (take action). EPI Practicum-
The Practicum course is designed to provide students with practical classroom experiences through observing, interacting and working with a school population, as well as gaining insight into the practical application of instruction.
